Fairy Brigid Festival Ritual
What Is the Brigid Festival Ritual?
The festival is an annual celebration of the Celtic Goddess, Brigid. The celebration is held every year on—or near—February 2.
Sometimes the festival is known simply by the Goddess’ name, Brigid.
Who Is the Goddess Brigid?
Brid is a Celtic Goddess known by many names. Among them are Brigit, Brigid, and Bride.
Lore tells us that She is a Goddess of metal smithing, poetry, and healing. She also governs the hearth and husbandry.

How is Candlemas Related to the Brigid Festival Ritual?
The annual February 2 Christian Feast of the Purification, also known as Candlemas, is rooted in the older Pagan festival for Brid. Christianity co-opted many Pagan traditions, yet also condemned them. But I reclaim the love, beauty, and power of those traditions. They free me. You can reclaim them too.
An additional explanation of the relationship between Candlemas and Brigid is below.
More Lore about the Goddess Brigid
There is a tradition of purification at Her festival. However, the prevalent Christian interpretation of the February 2 purification is not the Pagan vision of the purification at Brigit’s festival.
A Christian belief is that we are born with ugly, dirty souls. That supposed innate filth makes us unworthy of God’s love. Ugh! Lies! The usual Candlemas rite helps instill that idea in the cells of the people who participate in the rite.
Brigit loves us exactly as we are. Here is a Pagan purification performed at Brid’s festival:
What Happens in a Brigid Festival Ritual?
1) With Her loving support, we can use Her festival to cleanse away all that has held us back—all that keeps us from self-expression and being of maximum service to our communities.
2) Her festival celebrates that spring will come soon. She cleanses us of our winter drowsiness so we can find renewal as the weather warms. This renewal brings us hope, power, and tribal connection.

Why Is This Festival a Fairy Ritual?
There are many Pagan traditions. I myself am a Fairy Witch. The overview of my classes—which is here—gives a good sense of the tradition, if you know that everything in the overview is about Fairy Witchcraft, whether it is noted as such or not.
In the same vein, everything in this post is part of Fairy Witchcraft.
Also, as a Fairy Witch, I believe Brigid celebrates us and our wild hearts. She considers our longings holy and wants to help us reach our hearts’ desires. During my upcoming Fairy Brigid festival, Brid will empower attendees to follow through on our goals.
In other words, a Fairy Witch’s commitments are not dour undertakings in which we deprive ourselves of all self-love and self-fulfillment. Instead, we commit to goals that make us happy. This includes serving others in ways that are fulfilling.
The event will be via teleseminar—aka group phone call. If you subscribe to my newsletter, you have the information about how to attend.
If you have not subscribed yet and are interested in attending future free rituals, click the banner below. Unfortunately, publishing the call-in number here would allow robot promotional calls to interrupt our ritual.
