Paying for Witchcraft: Right or Wrong?

Is Charging Money for WitchCraft Ethical? Misinformation and History

Is Charging Money for WitchCraft Ethical?

Misinformation and History

When enough “experts” say something incorrect, it’s easy to believe. One erroneous statement is that a Witch should never be paid for magical services. History corrects this misconception:

Paid Witchcraft Has Traditionally
Helped Oppressed Communities

A living wage for Witches is an ethical part of many oppressed groups’ traditional cultures. The community Witch’s services included—and still include—psychic readings, spell casting, spiritual counseling, and more.

When I did psychic readings in occult shops, my clients asked for help with serious problems. Going to a Witch for spiritual guidance, spells to overcome problems, psychic readings about circumventing oppression, practical help such as a referral to a battered woman’s shelter, and other assistance is a long-standing part of many cultures.

The History of Payments to
Native American and Celtic Shamans

When I lived in England, a Witch found out that I charged for my services. She condescendingly commented, “That’s so American.” I responded, “Yes, many Native American tribes have an ancient tradition of paying Shamans for their services.” Another Witch was with us. He came from an ancient Celtic Shamanism family lineage. He added, “It is traditional for Celtic Shamanism, too.”

History: Training a Shaman to Earn Money

Dentalium shells were money in ancient California. The anthropologist, Malcolm Margolin, wrote that some ancient Californian Shamans imagined sweeping up a big pile of dentalium they had earned. Picturing this accumulation of money was part of their Shamanic training.

However, many upperclass Pagans represent occult shop psychics and others who receive payment for magical services as selfish individuals. This classist, racist portrayal has gone on for so long that it’s part of Pagan culture.

Paid Witchcraft is a cultural heritage of indigenous peoples, working-class neighborhoods, and other groups. Slandering the heritage does the following:

1) It shames disenfranchised individuals for seeking magical help to rise and thrive.

2) The slander also gate keeps magic, instead of letting people know about traditional magical support.

3) The propaganda also implies that you should feel shame if you want a career doing what you love to spread love, whether as a painter, bookkeeper, Witch, or another helpful profession.

Personal Gnosis, Myth, and Knowledge

Here is myth combined with my personal gnosis: All enchantments are the Fairy Queen and King’s magic spells. They want us to live free and use magic to fight oppression. They bless professional witches who use Their spells to fight colonizer culture and help wild hearts thrive. Fairy Witch ancestors add their blessings.

How to Support Magic for Freedom

How can we let people know that receiving payment for magic is traditional and ethical? Propaganda that seems spiritual is easy to believe. So, if this essay might help someone, send them a link to it: Copy the essay’s URL and paste it into social media, a text, or an email.

Don’t know what a URL is, or where to find it? Usually, every page on a website has its own address, also called the URL. It is at the top or bottom of a page. To spot it, look for http, the beginning of all URLs.

Select all of a URL, copy it, and paste it into social media, an email, or a text. Anyone who sees the social media post, email, or text can click that URL, which will bring them to the page in question.

In gratitude, your Witch ancestors will bless you with luck. The Fairy Queen and King will give you insights into Fairy Mysteries and worldly success. Only individuals who fight colonizer propaganda can understand certain Mysteries and practical wisdoms. So mote it be!
